Hello everybody, it’s been a long time…
I have some unfortunate news for you all. Fileserve disabled our account and Filesonic just disabled all download functionality. In addition to that, ul.to blocks all incoming traffic from the US, so all that is left for now, is uploading.com.
For now there will be no more new uploads (have been very few the last weeks anyhow), untill things have quieted down and we can decide on how things will go in the future. For now that is it.
I am sorry for everybody who bought a filesonic/fileserve/ul.to account via our website and can’t use it anymore, but there is nothing I can do about it.
All I can say is that I am sorry, and kind of devastated, because I have no idea at all what will become of abook. I’ve run this site for a bit more than 2 years now and it would be very sad to shut it down like this. If you have any ideas on how to keep it alive, please feel free to post it in the comments.
Sincerly
buck
on other sites I am on they are going to ifile.it.com because it has no servers in the US and is based in Europe. Just a thought
Keep up the good work regardless, really enjoy the site. Hopefully, once the initial shock and paranoia have worn off things will return to a semblance of normalcy. The opening salvos of the cyber wars have begun, it may be a little while…
Torrents maybe? I really hope that because of those MONKEYS (Filesever and Filesonic) this site don’t close. It has been awesome for me (I have dixlesia and no mobey to be an Audiobook .) keep it going.
If this is because of the pipa and fifa bills they have both been denied and are not being put into action as a result of internet user outrage.
Keep an eye on allyoulike.com and torrentfreak.com they’re keeping updates coming.
thanks for a really great site
this is really sad
can you use rapidshare or oron? I love this site and I wish it all the best. I hope things will get back to normal soon.
hang in there. this isn’t the first time. remember hotfile? it sucks but it would suck worse to quit. thanks alot this site is great and i wouldn’t mind a donation option if it would help.
If you’re using firefox you should be able to get a non US IP by using an add on like Stealthy or Anonymox … it works for me when I want to watch a youtube video that is blocked in my country.
Also, keep up the great work. I’m sure there will be new sites soon. It’s not the first time something like this happened.
well, its actually is first time this happened on such “grand scale” … issue is not that some individual filehost got sued by somebody and becouse of it was forced to shutdown. Issue is that all this is due to megaupload got shutdown via USA GOV, it has never happened before like this… There is quite panic in all “warez fronts”, so to say… Basicly all filehosts is freaked out right now.
This is the begining of the end…it’s all about the money owners who finance the polititians and lawmakers.
There is this server I have account in…they’re still on the air.

Hi Buck
I am so very sad to hear this.
I sure hope that you are able to get something worked out with another server.
These books have been the most wonderful thing to have come accross for me.
I love your site and look egerly every day to see if there is anything new to pique my interest.
I am sorry that I have no suggestions for a better option as I am not very familier with this sort of thing but I do wish you the best in finding an other option.
hugs
Judy
just a thought, you could always post to usenet (newsgroups) and just use this sight to tell people when you ” discover ” books on the various news groups. i for one will miss this sight if it disappears. Oh and for the record i am also a loyal Audible subscriber
i think u should keep on posting info bout abooks w/o any links
we are resoursful lot, can find our own way to dl if needed
but we need to know they are out there first
So sad to hear about this, I was always looking forward to your new posts. This site is a godsend for those of us who don’t always have the funds to purchase audiobooks. I will keep praying that some other alternative will come to pass.
It’s a fear thing. But the bills died, and I think the Megaupload bit was more ‘for show’ to see about a rxn like this. Look at the poster child they picked…Kim Dotcom couldn’t represent as a nicer person….er…hmmm. There’s a reason, he, specifically, was targeted.
There are still download services available. We just have to find one that works for abook.ws. Bottom line, until they decide to shut down libraries for ‘sharing’, and people decide that too is acceptable, they’re not going to win this.
Rapidshare isn’t ideal, but it looks like ‘the other’ audiobook download website has switched to using it.
The other piece, gentlemen, that I think people forget…since I believe most people here just use this site for personal use….your library has all sorts of media available for download, up to 10 items at a time usually, right to your computer from your own home. It’s funny, they put ‘checkout’ and ‘wait list’ restrictions on some of these things, I’m guessing they have user # restrictions or something so they treat them like books…but this stuff is still available for free. With a valid library card.
Hey, buck,
What about getting in touch with the guys running http://www.hoerbuch.to ?? Its a big German site I use a lot. They are looking for some clever programmers anyway at this moment, And they could surely use some sprucing up for their site…
However, what probably keeps them alive is, that you have to register to gain access to the download-area AND you have use a so called “thank you”-button to unveil the download-links.
I do not understand truly how these things work, but I could imagine, that it throws some of the dogs off your scent.
They also have a foreign audiobooks section. What about moving there for a while? Maybe they know a way to use European upload servers instead of American?
Good luck and this site !
Contact me, if you need help with German : )
you can use extabit or uploading.com
Regardless of what the future holds, just want to say “thank you” for all the work you have done!
@zephorah It depend on where you live…
Mediafire, 4shared, Wupload
Also check out filetram.com. Search anything and then on the left side a list of various services will come up. I don’t know how many are still going after this past week’s events but I can confirm the 3 I mentioned as still up and running.
Hey Buck,
A member posted this on a forum that I know you are a member of.
It might also explain some of what has been going on.
This isn’t over yet.
If you look at my first link you will see that there is a possibility that at least this agreement might be thrown out in the U.S. if it is found to me unconstitutional.

Quote:
On Thursday, the European Union and 22 of its member states signed the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, or ACTA — a major step toward enforcement of the copyright treaty. Eight countries, including the United States, had signed the agreement this past fall.
ACTA has always been controversial because the international negotiations that began in 2007 took place in secret. But now, opponents of the treaty have developed new muscle after witnessing the success of the Internet outcry against the two U.S. bills, the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protest IP Act (PIPA).
In Poland, hundreds took to the streets this week to protest the government’s intention to sign ACTA. Several popular Polish websites replaced their regular content with statements expressing concerns about ACTA, and government websites were taken offline in an apparent denial-of-service attack coordinated by the hacker group Anonymous.

Oh I forget to add that filejungle is still up and running too.
Hope you find a new way forward and I really appreciate all your hard work in keeping everything going. {{{HUGS}}}
Hi!
I just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work and effort in compiling and uploading all these wonderful audiobooks. I’d've gone bonkers without them. And through you I’ve found some wonderful new stories to listen to as well.
I’ll echo the others here and hope also that this will blow away, and everything will be back to normal again soon, but in any case, I’ll wish you all the best, and I’d love to see you continue with abook…
Cheers!
Just a note to let you know that I miss this site so very much. Thank you for all the all the good times I have had listening to the books. Hugs, Maggie
I miss you Buck Rider.
I miss Buck Rider, too, and I die a little on the inside when I think about losing this site!
Is there any way at all you could start using sites that still work, like Wupload, Rapidshare, Crocko, Freakshare, Uploading or even Mediafire?
There will be big changes coming soo.
There will come new audiobooks, but there’s still some work to do, before I can tell you more. You’ll notice soo enough.
Fingers crossed then!
Yea. I’ve been going nuts trying to find other audio book sites..not a lot I can find. Fingers and toes crossed.
Cheers
Being a senior citizen with no income, this site has always meant a lot to me, it would be great to see it come back.
Hoping for the best, good luck!
wow, now that is nice to hear! love your site. wrote you an email , but never got a response. was for the win of the download giveaway a while back.
do you respond or is that something that got filtered?
love your site and the great uploads. always nice to see what is out there.
thanks a million!
When it was about a giveaway and you won, then I did reply to your mail. Plese check your spam/junk folder, it should be there somewhere.
The code you got should still be good.
As for other mails. I often do not reply, because mails get rejected very often and also I have not as much time as I had in the beginning of this site. I also do not reply when the question is already answered in the FAQ.
Hi, everyone. Don’t know if you guys already knos this, but FILESERVE is working again ![]()
See:
http://www.fileserve.com/file/7Krczzs/sookie_06.abook.ws.part1.rar
thanks. your reply must have gone lost in the internet void. checked everywhere. yes, you have much to do, so thanks for your awesome site. as long as your focus in on that, we are all happy.
thanks!
Oh I am so excited about the new abooks.
Please keep us updated Buck.
Thank you so much for persisting with the site. I and I know many many others are most grateful for your efforts.
Hugs
Judy
fileserve is back up and uploading never went down
please no pay site. if you do go that way, then it would break my heart.
howabout netload? they have something with earn money on their site.
I can assure you, we will not become a paysite. We will move to usenet, as i said here, and the blog will become a forum. It all takes longer than I planned, but that is just the way life usually is.
usenet is a paysite. or not? i keep seeing ads to join. checked wiki but there is just waaaay too much to read. if it is something free, please count me in.
thanks for your reply and the work so far. if you have somekind of way of posting more ‘Joseph Delaney’ books starting with ‘Spook’s I Am Grimalkin – October 2011′ i would be more than greatful. love the series. found the tip on your pages. and they are soooo good. even a movie coming out. hope it will be BIG!
That is a common problem with german people, because the german part of the web is riddled with ads about Usenext which is only a company providing crappy Usenet access, but Usenext & Usenet are not the same thing.
There are ways to get completely free Usenet access and there are services where you have to pay for the access. But it has the big plus, that the files can’t be reported that easy, because they’re on stored on many differen Newsservers around the world. The downside with free Usenet access usually is the low retention time or the slow download speed, but hey… it’s free.
We will include some ads for Usenet access providers, simply because we can’t afford all the costs that come with running such a site. It is not just uploading an audiobook via home connection every now and then… It is quite expensive to run a site like this and since there is no more income from the filehosts to cover those costs, we really, really need ads and people actually buying an account every now and then, to cover all this.
Abook is a far too small site, to make any money at all, it barely covered its own costs for the last 2 years and I personally paid a lot from my own personal pocket in the beginning.
The companies we use for ads will be carefully selected and nobody will be ripped off (like Usenext does), but it will be all for nothing, if nobody is willing to support us.
Maybe it’s worth thinking about that.
buck
thanks a lot! i will click as many adds as i can. bring em on. hahaha!
love your work.
Hi Buck, i wont be checking this website anymore (not sure why i bother in the first place, their hasnt been any update in months…) Regarding usenet is far to difficult to use (for a non techie), i will be finding other sites for audiobooks from now on.
dear audiofanatic: at least you could have said thanks for the past postings. it’s people like you who complain, and do not have a friendly word to give. that is the least you can do.
well buck rider , i say thank you.
I couldn’t care less about one user more or less. However, what I do care about is attitude.
Not sure why I even bother… I know why! Because abook has provided many people woth more than 2300+ quality posts and you wanted to see how it will go on.
I can understand that, but don’t bitch that there haven’t been any posts in months (sound like forever), yes there haven’t been any new uploads in the past 1.5 months, but it isn’t that I have kept you in the dark about anything. I’ve always been completely honest when we had problems with the site.
You also must know, I run this site as a hobby, not as a business. And when change is needed, I have to adapt. Means I have to learn new things and change a lot of old habbits. That is not always easy, sometimes because I lack the motivation, sometimes because I just don’t have the time. But I run this site as good as I know how to and nobody has the right to demand anything in any way. This is my personal playground that I just so happen to share with you.
Again: This is a hobby, this is not a full time job! So things take longer every now and then, but that is the way life is.
take your time, your true fans are willing to wait for a job that they know will be done right. waiting the next incarnation of abook.ws is just like waiting for the next book by your favorite author. some people have more patience than others, some authors have taken years between books. would you stop reading a great series because someone took 2 1/2 years between books? for me no it just means i’ll be first in line to buy it at the store. i’m positive 99% of the people who come here appreciate all you have done through the years.
we love you man.

Let me add this: If you sent me an email via the contact form and did not receive a reply in this matter, that is because your provider blocks mails from us.
