First name Odd, last name Thomas. This quirky and touching story of a 20-year-old short-order cook with paranormal abilities is spun with stylistic grace by Dean Koontz, and read in an innocent, unaffected style by David Aaron Baker. The plot is clean and simple, as is the recording quality, yet Odd’s bewitching world becomes more and more engrossing. Baker maintains Odd’s quiet passion and integrity while death, violence, and heartbreak hover around him. As you listen, you will visualize the everyday people this psychic loves as clearly as he can, and with similar compassion.

2 – Forever Odd

Besides having an unusual moniker, 21-year-old Odd Thomas has some very unusual powers, chief among them his ability to see the dead. He can see, feel and talk to them, too ,though they don’t talk back. Perhaps they know things about death that the living are not permitted to learn from them. These days Odd is still hosting the ghost of a morose Elvis Presley, still (spoiler), and still worrying about his very fat friend P. Oswald Boone, whose cat, Terrible Chester, likes to pee on his shoes. Late one night, Odd is summoned by the ghost of Dr. Wilbur Jessup to the Jessup home, the site of a gruesome murder. Dr. Jessup is the father of Odd’s best friend, Danny, who is afflicted with osteogenesis imperfecta, also known as brittle bones. Odd finds Dr. Jessup’s body, but Danny is missing. Since Odd has what he describes as psychic magnetism, he can follow an invisible mental trail, which in this case leads him to his endangered friend. After he finds Danny in a spooky, burned-out Indian casino, it is Odd who becomes the quarry. The beautiful and stunningly evil Datura, aided by two frightening minions, wants to use Odd for his supernatural abilities?and then kill him.

Rarely has a character been so instantly embraced by readers as Koontz’s unlikely hero, Odd Thomas, the wise and gentle fry cook, who just happens to see dead people. In this third adventure, Odd has left his hometown and taken up residence in a monastery high in the Sierras. Surrounded by loving but eccentric brothers and sisters, Odd hopes to rest and recover from the horrific events of the last two books. But after he discovers the body of one of the monastery brothers, Odd finds himself going up against a supernatural force that threatens the lives of everyone who lives within the monastery walls.

4 – Odd Hours

Odd longed only to return to a life of quiet anonymity with his two otherworldly sidekicks?his dog Boo and a new companion, one of the few who might rival his old pal Elvis. But a true hero, however humble, must persevere. Haunted by dreams of an all-encompassing red tide, Odd is pulled inexorably to the sea, to a small California coastal town where nothing is as it seems. Now the forces arrayed against him have both official sanction and an infinitely more sinister authority?and in this dark night of the soul dawn will come only after the most shattering revelations of all.

Pity about the hotfile problems. The “Odd Thomas” series is a good one that I’d been hoping would appear. Is the hotmail absence ominous for my recent subscription?

What hotfile absence and what subscription are you talking about? Can’t quite follow…

However, the absence of hotfile links is simple, they had some trouble with ftp uploads yesterday and in addition, our uploader rank dropped very low, but for paying the server costs it is essential that we keep the rank we have at the moment. So we decided to upload re-posts, like this post, wich will have few downloads only on different hosters than hotfile. It is something we just have to do to stay alive. But this only applies on re-posts.

Thanks for the prompt reply, Buck R. I just renewed this month’s Hotfile, primarily due to your invaluable site. I was thinking it should maybe have been Fileserve/sonic. I hadn’t realised I was dealing with uploads. Your explanation of the workings of Hotfile was very interesting.

I can only advise you to stay with hotfile, if you want to be on the safe side, that is where all new stuff will be posted, can’t promise that for fileserve. ;)

It’s a repost from Jan. 2010 btw. ;)
